At Lakes, we’re looking for an IT Support Engineer to join our team.

Lakes Computer Consultants Ltd are a well-established Managed Service Provider just outside Kendal. We support a wide range of clients across many industries. We were formed in the mid 80’s and have some customers that we have worked with for nearly 40 years and many more that we have worked with for over 20 years. Our customers consist of primarily office-based business customers based around Northern Lancashire and Cumbria.

Role:

Primarily the role will be one of telephone support but the candidate will also be required to configure computers and hardware, deliver to the customer, customise on site and provide help, as required. We manage various broadband and wireless networks so troubleshooting these, together with reporting to the ISP in a timely manner is a regular job. Guidance will be provided in business systems and the role, and salary will develop as the candidate’s skill set increases.

The ideal candidate has achieved a degree (or equivalent) within the IT field and seeks an opportunity to expand their knowledge on the job, and work as part of a support team.

This role has lots of opportunities for an individual who has strong technical skills and the ability to learn, combined with high interpersonal skills. It should appeal to a competent technology all-rounder who is interested in furthering their career within IT across a wide range of disciplines.

Specific duties include:

  • Providing technical support to our clients both onsite and remotely, primarily on Windows based systems.
  • Research and seek solutions to problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Documenting findings and maintain the company knowledge base
  • Contributing to the frontline helpdesk, ensuring calls are handled quickly and to a high standard.
  • Assisting in managing client relationships and representing the company in a positive manner.
  • Managing various cloud services as necessary.
  • Performing daily maintenance tasks on a number of different platforms

Must have:

  • Full and clean driving license
  • Have a high level of verbal and written communication
  • Degree or similar qualification in an IT related discipline
  • A working knowledge of Windows PCs and hardware
  • A working knowledge of Mobile Devices – iOS and Android
  • A working knowledge of Networking and troubleshooting

Experience in these following areas is an advantage

  • Microsoft 365 / Azure / Exchange platform
  • Experience working on projects as part of a team.
  • Networking – Routers, Switches, Access Points, VLANs and other networking aspects.
  • Windows server knowledge / Hyper-V virtualisation
  • Remote support software
  • Anti-Virus / security software
  • Telephony / VoIP systems experience.
  • Backup / server monitoring tools.
  • AWS / Google cloud knowledge.
  • Various other skills related to providing IT services to other businesses.
  • Experience of Apple Mac devices

The candidate should be a good communicator who is friendly and patient and is happy engaging with a variety of clients, from VIPs to junior staff. It will be expected that you take ownership of any client problems in a timely manner and either resolve or pass onto 2nd line support.

The ideal candidate would be someone who is flexible in regards to their duties, have a positive approach to work and enjoy contributing to our busy and friendly team environment.

Office hours: 9am-5:30pm Mon to Fri with occasional out of hours work as required.

4 weeks holidays plus most bank holidays and potentially additional days off over the Xmas break.
